Peacock is India's national bird. they are very beautiful. Their feathers are used as accessory or to enhance elegance in a place. Their feathers are so rich in color and very beautiful that many of us can't stop admiring them. In one point or another in our life we might have liked peacock green and would have chosen it as a favorite color. In my childhood, I used to go to my father's office just to see peacocks which sometimes comes just for a short visit.
This kolam or rangoli design is made of peacock, flower, deepam or lamp motifs put togethr. we can also see butterflies in this design. In the center the deepam's are so arranged that they look like kuthu vizhaku. on either side of the center is peacock motifs. Other designs togther form a diamond shape. The corners of the overall square design is occupied by deepam and butterfly.
There is strict formal balance in the design. Elegance of the design comes from the curved lines in the motif. It comes under the category of bird kolam, peacock kolam, butterfly kolam, flower kolam and deepam kolam.

Peacock is the most beautiful bird with all those attractive feathers. It was used as a hand fan for kings. It has a richness and elegance to it. It is believed that peacock feathers are used to keep lizards away from the house. Peacock is the national bird of our country.
The center of the design is concentric stars. On the either side of the star are peacocks. They are reflected on the bottom half. The feathers of top two peacock and bottom two peacock are merged. It is drawn with the help of dots. It is elongated vertically.
It comes under the category of bird kolam, dots kolam, peacock kolam, star kolam, pulli kolam and other kolam. My grandmother and mother used to draw kolam on the floor and notebooks to record it. Whenever they saw a kolam or rangoli design on a magazine they used to get so interested. Their curiosity created innovative new designs.

Peacock, the bird with beautiful feathers and our national bird. Tulsi or Indian basil is very famous for its healing qualities. In traditional Indian houses, one can see a tulsi plant placed in the center of the house. The pot in which it is kept is decorated with kolam made of curved lines.
The center of the kolam or rangoli is concentric and is colored with beautiful colors. Peacocks in their blue shades or good contrast to the tulsi pot. In between peacocks there is small sikkal kolam. The colors are balanced. Over all the kolam is well balanced and very appealing to the eye. It can be drawn daily or on special occasions.
In traditional homes it can be drawn in the courtyard, patio, entrance etc. It comes under the category of bird kolam, animal kolam, peacock kolam, festival kolam etc. It can be a pulli kolam or a rangoli type kolam.
