 Rangoli kolam

Kolam or Rangoli ,as we call it today, is a folk art. Started as a home decoration and to welcome vistors. It is bought to life with colours and sometimes flowers.

This rangoli kolam is made of floral motifs. The purple, pink and green is giving brilliance, whereas the center is done with turmeric. The brown and other earthly tones suggest the source and start of the art. This can be drawn in front of our house in spring time and summer. Even during festival these kinds of kolam or rangoli can be seen in front of many houses in south India. This art is not given the importance it deserves.

Like other folk arts of India which is getting famous in other countries, this should also become known to all. It’s the best way to create puzzles and solving it. The process gave flexibility  and good posture to backbone. It was traditionally drawn with rice which fed insects. See how thoughtful our ancestors were. Kolam or Rangoli has so deep meanings to it. And it beautifully decorated our houses. It was drawn even inside the house in mud houses. White colour on d earthly tones is very attractive.
