Thulasi or tulsi or Indian basil is a very famous herb in India for health properties and religious reasons. It is grown in India in every traditional house. It is given as much importance as hindu deities. Usually placed in the courtyard of the very center of the house. The pot it is kept on is decorated with deepam and kolams.
This kolam portrays the pot and the thulsi plant. Outer pot in this kolam or rangoli design is designed with stars. There is incision for keeping of lamp or deepam. Over which a small pot is kept designed with tribal designs. Tulsi or thulasi is kept in the small pot.
Outer pot is done with earthly brown shades. Designed with stars of green shades to emphasize on the plant on top. Colors used in the small pot brings out contrast and shows how turmeric was used for coloring agent. The pot looks small comparatively and voluminous. The small lamp or deepam kept in the large pot gives another focal point to the design.
